Rising above the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill is one of the most important sites in ancient Rome, known as the legendary birthplace of the city. According to mythology, Romulus founded Rome here after defeating his twin brother Remus. During the Republic and Imperial periods, it became the residence of Rome’s elite, including emperors like Augustus, Tiberius, and Domitian, who built opulent palaces overlooking the city. Today, Palatine Hill is an open-air archaeological site featuring ruins of grand imperial residences, ancient temples, and gardens, offering breathtaking views of the Forum and the Colosseum.
Rome to Marche: Tivoli, Ancona & Urbino

JOURNEY THROUGH TIME, TRUFFLES & TRADITION
When we started developing the idea of taking visitors on curated trips through Italy, folks would ask why we were starting with Marche instead of someplace like Tuscany. Well, besides the fact that the first exchange student we ever hosted comes from Marche and we’ve developed loving ties to her and her family, Marche is an amazing region. It’s full of rolling hills, charming hilltowns, and a rich blend of history and tradition. You will wander through medieval streets in Urbino, hunt for truffles in Acqualagna, sip some of Italy’s finest Verdicchio wines, and soak in the stunning views along the Conero Coast.
The food here is honest and unforgettable, with fresh seafood, rustic local dishes, and wines that perfectly capture the region’s spirit.
It’s the kind of place that feels timeless, inviting you to slow down and truly savor the real Italy away from the crowds.
Before heading to Marche, your journey will begin in Rome with visits to iconic sights like the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Trevi Fountain, plus authentic neighborhoods and lively markets. On the way east, enjoy a stop in Tivoli to visit the stunning Villa d’Este gardens.
After exploring Marche’s hidden gems, the trip winds back through Assisi—famous for its spiritual heritage and medieval charm—before concluding with a relaxing stay at a luxurious thermal spa near Rome.
